Exact setting of strip tension – at any position in the processing line

In production and processing lines for strip made of steel or NF metals, Umlauf Bridles build up strip back-tension exactly where and as high as needed. Also thick strips or strips made of high-strength materials can be handled with ease.

Umlauf Bridles are successfully in operation in numerous strip processing applications, such as in pickling, annealing, rolling, side trimming, galvanizing and leveling as well as in slitting and cut-to-length lines.

By building up or reducing back-tension in a controlled way and at virtually any position of strip processing lines, Umlauf Bridles help to improve in many ways the economic efficiency of operations in steel and non-ferrous metals strip production.

The result: More sellable meters per coil!

Umlauf Bridles apply high back-tension uniformly across the entire width of the strip, effectively minimizing or even eliminating residual stresses. This ensures exceptional flatness in the processed material.

By building up strip tension before the strip head enters processing units, Umlauf Bridles increase the usable length of each coil. This enhancement can lead to an increase in yield per coil by up to 20 meters in certain processing lines.

The precise control of strip tension and guidance provided by Umlauf Bridles reduces the need for excessive side trimming and minimizes scrap at the head and tail ends of the strip, thereby improving material utilization.

Umlauf Bridles guide the strip linearly without deflection, applying force over an area rather than at a single point. This method prevents relative movement between the equipment and the strip surface, eliminating the risk of surface damage and ensuring high-quality finishes.

Capable of applying strip back-tensions of up to 6,000 kN, Umlauf Bridles are particularly effective for processing thick strips and high-strength materials, outperforming traditional bridle roll units in these demanding applications.
