Successful commissioning of two new Umlauf Bridles

Already in 1995, BTU supplied a customer in Germany with a loop stand that generated a strip tension of 5 tons during coiling behind a rolling mill. Among the five similar lines operated by this customer, this installation still stands out as the one with the lowest downtime.

Recently, we commissioned two new loop stands at the same customer’s skin-pass mill, applying a strip tension of 20 tons. The new line processes comparatively thick strip, necessitating this high level of tension.

At the start of the project, the investment in the loop stands was justified solely by the savings on head and tail scrap. However, just a few weeks after commissioning, it became clear that production had increased by more than 60%—an extremely welcome additional benefit!

The reasons: Simplified threading of thick strips and doubled production speed.
